This short video demonstrates the best way to search for streaming videos available through the library:

The main search steps for finding videos:

  1. Use the library search box on the library home page.
  2. You can use the drop down menu in the main search box to limit to videos.
  3. On the search results page, use the availability limiter to limit to available online.
  4. A link within the catalog record will provide access to the video.
  5. Off-campus, the user may be asked to authenticate into their Columbia Office 365 account (if not already logged in) for access.

For information on using our streaming video databases directly (not through the library search box or catalog), including Kanopy, Academic Video Online, Films on Demand, Digital Theatre, and Swank, please refer to our streaming video research guide.

A note about videos provided through Kanopy: Some videos provided through Kanopy will require a faculty request to purchase the license. In that case, a request form will appear where the video information is displayed, inviting the faculty member to give their name, email, and course number.  Usually, the license will be purchased and access will be provided within a few days for videos needed for teaching. If Library staff need more information, they will contact the requestor.
